Wigan finally climbed off the foot of the table after a last-gasp win at Sunderland last weekend, but can they hold off an in-form Arsenal side determined to get the three points?

Despite the blip of the Carling Cup defeat to Manchester City on Tuesday, Arsenal have turned the corner from their poor form and patchwork teams of the start of the season. Before outplaying and then losing narrowly to City at the Emirates, the Gunners were unbeaten in 10 matches in all competitions. In Robin van Persie they possess the best striker in the Premier League on current form and his goals have given the encouragement to his team mates to play with confidence again.

Arsene Wenger’s side are massive odds-on favourites to win at the DW, and can be backed at a best price of just 4/7 (Bet365 – £200 free betting). We think they will do the business, however, and that they’ll get a few goals in the process.

In the Premier League, Wigan’s home games have averaged 3.17 goals per game and Arsenal’s away matches a whopping 5.17 goals per game. As such, backing over 3.5 goals in this one looks a decent bet at odds of 7/4 (Sky Bet), with Theo Walcott looking tasty at 2/1 (Boylesports) to get on the score sheet.

Wigan are a hefty price to win at 11/2 (Paddy Power – £100 free bets), but even at those odds we won’t be backing them. Their solitary home win in the league was back in August against QPR, and we really can’t see them getting anything at all against a rampant Arsenal.

Roberto Martinez might try to pack the midfield and instruct his team to press Arsenal into making mistakes, but despite the never-quite-solid defence, the visitors will always create chances, and with RVP in such hot form, the Gunners should wind up comfortable winners.
