It’s been a season that Wayne Rooney won’t forget in a hurry, although this will be for the wrong reasons at this point of the campaign. After all, he has been restricted to a handful of appearances in a Manchester United shirt and scored just one goal for his club so far.
Since featuring as a substitute against West Brom on 16th October, Rooney has not played a game although that could be about to change against Wigan Athletic on Saturday, with news emerging that the striker could be amongst the substitutes for the Premier League contest.
It would also mark his first potential appearance since the drama that unfolded towards the end of October when Sir Alex Ferguson revealed that Rooney wanted to leave Old Trafford only for the player to do a swift U-turn and sign a new contract that keeps him at the club for the next five seasons.
“I don’t think he’ll start tomorrow,” Ferguson told the radio station Key 103. “Maybe he will reach the bench. But he will certainly play on Wednesday against Rangers.”
It will be interesting to see what sort of reaction Rooney gets from the Manchester United supporters, many of whom were disgusted by the behaviour of the player in wanting to leave the club for alleged financial reasons.
