The stakes could not be higher when these arch-rivals clash at the Liberty Stadium on Sunday, with both teams right in the thick of things as far as a promotion charge is concerned.

Swansea are two points better off than Cardiff having played a game more and it was Brendan Rodgers’ team who won the reverse fixture, something that has made the Bluebirds doubly determined to regain the bragging rights this weekend.

Jay Bothroyd is determined that his team can take a maximum haul, stating: “We are determined to beat Swansea – it would be a massive victory.

“I’m not from Cardiff, but I consider myself a Cardiff boy. I’m settled here and really enjoy the banter I have with our fans.

“To play for Cardiff City in our local derby is a massive thing for me to be involved in. I want to help this club get to the Premier League,” said Bothroyd. “I really believe we can do it this season.”

Cardiff have managed to win just two of their last eight games, with the Swans enjoying a better run of form which saw them win 2-0 at Bristol City on Tuesday.

Rodgers said: “The players have been fantastic to get us to where we are.

“Knowing this league as I do and some of the wages that players are on compared to our lads, it is incredible really that we are where we are.

“Massive, massive applause goes to the players for what we have done, but we have to refocus and keep our concentration from now on in.”
