Super Sprint latest Horse Racing news
Newbury again plays host to the Weatherbys sponsored Super Sprint, set to be run over five furlongs at Newbury on Saturday at 3.30pm, where a maximum twenty five two year olds will do battle for this valuable renewal. With such a large number heading to post, luck in running is sure to play a big part in the race.
Trainer Richard Hannon has a fantastic record in this race winning four of the last ten Super Sprints. Hannon runs four this year with Eureka and Redact (both unbeaten in two runs) his main players.
There is a very strong team sent down from the North this year, with trainers Richard Fahey and Kevin Ryan both running four horses apiece.
It is however fellow northern trainer Tim Easterby’s Ponty Acclaim 12/1 with bet365 bookmakers (£200 free bets) that is given the vote here. Easterby’s filly finds herself on a very handy mark of 7st 12lb, despite winning two of her four career runs. She was last seen at Thirsk just over a month ago when running away with a hot looking 5f Novice Stakes race, Nagham was 2L away in second that day and re-opposes today on the same terms, so there is no reason why that form should be reversed. Duran Fentiman has rode Ponty Acclaim on three occasions, and again finds himself on board the daughter of Acclamation.
As mentioned earlier Richard Fahey runs four here, with the stable’s likely number one being Lily’s Angel, who is the pick of Paul Hanagan. She is four from six in her career and could be the biggest danger to the selection.
