Manchester City were the big winners at the top of the Premier League this weekend, with Roberto Mancini’s team the only one of the top four to win their match.

Manchester United remain in pole position to land the title with a four-point gap over second-placed Arsenal to protect, although Sir Alex Ferguson is clearly unhappy with the missed opportunity at Molineux, something which could come back to haunt the Red Devils.

Wolves were full value for their 2-1 victory, which was achieved after going 1-0 down to an early strike from Nani.

“It was an opportunity,” said Ferguson. “I said before the game, I do think Wolves are in a false position.

“But we had a great start. We made a lot of chances, particularly in the first half.

“Then in the second we were not at the races. Their keeper did not have many saves to make.

“The pitch was not very good but we didn’t make anything.”

Rio Ferdinand was due to play in the match until the warm-up when the central defender sustained a calf injury which will mean he’s out for at least a fortnight.
