Shadwell Stakes latest news, odds and free bets – FreeBetting Sports News

Newbury stages what is the only Group race in Britain on Saturday in the shape of the Shadwell Stakes to be run over 6f, where 10 runners will head to post for the Group 3 event.

Last years winner and likely favourite is the Dandy Nicholls trained Regal Parade, who is still looking for his first win of this year’s campaign after five reasonable efforts. Another to note is Markab, Henry Candy’s eight year old, which has disappointed in two efforts this season, although a repeat of his form that saw him win the Betfred Sprint at Haydock last term is sure to put him in the mix.

Trainer Hughie Morrison has won this race two times in the past six years, and it is his Pastoral Player 9/2 with bet365 bookmakers (£200 free bets) that gets the nod here. Morrison’s four year old is a previous course and distance winner back in his two-year-old days and was last seen when eighth of ten behind Night Carnation at Sandown two weeks ago over an inadequate trip of 5f.

Pastoral Player has only had three runs this season and could still be an improving sort, his 3L behind Deacon Blues (re-opposes) at Royal Ascot last month in the Wokingham over six furlongs was a fine effort. He is duly 5lb better off with that rival here, and with Ryan Moore booked to ride he could be the one they all have to beat.

Another to note is Clive Cox’s 2009 Ayr Gold Cup winner Jimmy Styles, who is one from one at this course and could give the selection most to fear.
