Queens Park Rangers have 22 games to stay ahead of their fellow promotion contenders and book their place among the Premier League elite for next season.

After leaving Sheffield United, Neil Warnock must have thought the chance to manage in the top flight wouldn’t come round again, although the Hoops manager has seen his team get off to a blistering start and there’s a five-point gap between themselves and 3rd-placed Cardiff.

Rangers beat Coventry at the Ricoh Arena a few weeks ago, although they have failed to win any of their subsequent four matches and have Jamie Mackie sidelined for the rest of the season after a leg break at Ewood Park.

Reinforcements are on their way in the form of Wayne Routledge and Pascal Chimbonda, with the former having been at Loftus Road last season.

“I think Wayne just needs an arm around him,” said QPR boss Neil Warnock. “He is a super lad and a super player.”

Meanwhile, Coventry City are only six points off the play-offs and Adrian Boothroyd knows what’s required to steer a club to promotion, having done this with Watford five seasons ago.

The Sky Blues manager doesn’t appear to be bringing any new faces into the squad during the month of January.

He said: “There`s been no interest at all in any of our players, I read where certain people are going every week but nobody ever seems to go there which is good.

“And in terms of incomings we`re in a similar sort of position really, I`ve got targets but I`m comfortable enough with where we are, providing we can get everybody back (from injury).”
