Pepe Reina set to leave Liverpool FC in the summer? | FreeBetting Sports News
Xabi Alonso and Fernando Torres are two Spaniards that have flown the Anfield nest and it appears as though Pepe Reina’s days at the Merseyside club could be numbered.
Reina was linked with a move away from Liverpool ahead of the January transfer window, although it was compatriot Torres who made the record £50 million switch from Anfield to Stamford Bridge.
However, the goalkeeper doesn’t appear to be ruling out a move in the summer, stating: “I think it’s hard for me to come back to Spain to play. I think my place is in England – and right now that is with Liverpool.”
“It’s hard to see me returning to Spain. Barcelona and Madrid are the two teams you would aspire to in Spain and that’s impossible. [At United,] Edwin van der Sar is hanging up his gloves and people say that Arsenal are looking. I can’t do or say anything; I renewed my contract with Liverpool last year. But what a player wants, logically, is to challenge for titles.”
Perhaps John Henry’s burning ambition to secure a Premier League title for Liverpool will compel Reina to stick around, especially after the acquisition of Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez.
