Many people were expecting a classic on Sunday morning, although Andy Murray struggled to live with Novak Djokovic for most of the Australian Open men’s singles final.

The Serbian triumphed by a scoreline of 6-4, 6-2, 6-3, with the Brit losing a Grand Slam final for the third occasion and the quest for a major title continues.

The match started off in a cagey fashion, with neither player making too many mistakes on their serve and it appeared as though the first set was going to end in a tie-break.

However, with Murray serving at 4-5, Djokovic seized on his opportunity to break the world number five and take the opening set which has been closely-contested throughout.

The second set saw the Brit really start to wilt in the Melbourne heat, with Murray unable to find any sort of form and it looked as though his opponent was going to claim a whitewash as he led 5-0.

Murray briefly rallied to draw back to 5-2 before Djokovic took the eighth game of the set and the writing was on the wall for the Scot.

Despite brief moments of great play during the third set from Murray, he was unable to sustain the level of form required for an almighty comeback and Djokovic held his nerve to claim his second Grand Slam title.

The Serbian should be praised for his performance where he handled the occasion perfectly although Murray clearly did not produce his best game and the search for a Grand Slam title goes on.
