Ever since Ruby Walsh broke his leg a few weeks ago, an injury which has ruled out the Irishman until the New Year, there has been speculation as to which lucky jockey would take the ride of Kauto Star in the King George VI Chase at Kempton Park on Boxing Day.

Paul Nicholls and the connections to the horse have taken their time making a decision, although it has now been confirmed that Noel Fehily will ride Kauto, with a masterful performance aboard Master Minded on Saturday apparently convincing owner Clive Smith that he was the man for the job.

Writing exclusively for betfair, the trainer said: “I am relieved to be able to tell you that we have made a decision on who rides Kauto Star at Kempton on Boxing Day.

“I have literally just put the phone down to Clive Smith and Noel Fehily takes the ride on Boxing Day.

“It was fairly obvious that we were heading in that direction. And Noel’s success aboard Master Minded on Saturday pretty much sealed the decision.

“I am relieved to be able to put it to bed as it will now stop everyone asking me about it!”
