Manchester City v Wigan Athletic latest news

One player who will miss Saturday’s match at Eastlands is Kolo Toure after the Ivory Coast defender was suspended by Manchester City on Friday for a failed drugs test.

Toure has apparently taken one of his wife’s diet pills according to Arsene Wenger, the man who originally brought the player to England after signing him at Arsenal.

“I think it is a mistake. He was not cautious enough. I don’t think there’s a desire there to do something wrong and hide it,” Wenger said. “It’s a complete surprise because I had Kolo Touré here for years, I brought him here”.

Vincent Kompany will make a timely return from injury as City look to build on Wednesday’s comfortable 3-0 win over Aston Villa in the FA Cup which now makes them joint-favourites to lift the trophy.

However, Wigan are in deep trouble after last Saturday’s 4-0 humbling at the hands of Manchester United and Roberto Martinez’s team are running out of games to preserve their Premier League status.

The plus point for the Latics is that there are plenty of other teams near the foot of the table that are within reaching distance and victory at Eastlands would probably lift them out of the drop zone.

“Yes, there are certain aspects we need to improve. That is quite clear. But I think the positives are bigger than the little aspects we need to improve”, Martinez said.

“Now is a real test of character and a challenge we have to enjoy. Yes, it is a real fight and we will need to work really hard to stay in the Barclays Premier League, but we are going to do it with style.”
