Manchester City v Everton, Monday 8pm

It will be a minor miracle if Manchester City do manage to win the Premier League this season, especially as their title bid looks threatened to be derailed every other week. The club might have spent hundreds of millions on new players, although that has simply led to several squad members wanting out of Eastlands and Carlos Tevez has slapped down a transfer request in the past few days.

City are determined to hang on to Tevez, although it’s not certain as to whether he will start this match and that makes the 8/11 (Ladbrokes) about the home win look a little skinny, especially as Roberto Mancini’s side have only won half their matches at Eastlands this term. Nevertheless, they are a full fourteen points better off than their opponents in the table and can be backed at 7/4 (bet365) to win to nil.

Everton are proving to be a strange team this season, capable of mixing it with the best but also unable to beat some of the lesser teams in the Premier League at Goodison Park. Even so, they won at Eastlands last season which deprived City of a place in the Champions League and the Toffees are 4/1 (William Hill) to please their large travelling contingent once again by winning.

David Moyes’ team are lacking goals and it would be a big surprise if the Scot doesn’t try and sign a quality striker during the January transfer window. Tim Cahill (9/1 Stan James) remains the likeliest goalscorer for the visitors, although Carlos Tevez is 9/2 with Stan James to break the deadlock for the home side and demonstrate he is still committed to the club.
