Liverpool v Chelsea, 4pm
Liverpool might be floundering near the foot of the Premier League, although this represents one of the biggest fixtures of the season, with Arsenal and Manchester United both hoping that the Merseyside team can give their title hopes a massive boost.
It’s hard to remember a time when the Reds were available at odds of 3/1 to win a match at Anfield, although bet365 are clearly happy to take on a side that are a pale shadow of the team that challenged for the title two seasons ago. Things do seem to be improving after wins against Blackburn and Bolton, with Roy Hodgson’s team available at odds of 7/1 (Boylesports) to lead at half-time and full-time in this match.
Chelsea seem to be playing at a canter during the week against Spartak Moscow, although the Blues still managed to win 4-1 and they are heavy favourites at odds of 21/20 (Victor Chandler) to continue leading a merry dance at the top of the Premier League. Carlo Ancelotti’s team were slightly fortunate to come away from Ewood Park with the points, although they will still take some stopping.
Didier Drogba is the 4/1 favourite with Ladbrokes to score the first goal of the game and he has been a regular thorn in Liverpool’s side, although it’s worth noting that Branislav Ivanovic has scored three goals in the last two games for Chelsea and the Serbian can be backed at 33/1 with Boylesports to score first or last at Anfield.
Liverpool will hope that Fernando Torres rises to the occasion and the Spaniard is 7/1 (Ladbrokes) to break the deadlock, while captain Steven Gerrard (10/1 Betfred) will want to get the better of an opposition midfield which might well include Frank Lampard (8/1 Betfred).
