Liverpool splashed out £16 million on Jordan Henderson last month and the Merseyside club have now landed another midfielder, with Charlie Adam making the short trip from Blackpool to Anfield.
A fee has been agreed and all that remains is for Adam to pass a medical at Liverpool before Kenny Dalglish starts looking for ways to accommodate the Scotland international who was one of the most impressive performers in the Premier League last term.
“Liverpool Football Club today announced they have reached agreement with Blackpool for the transfer of Charlie Adam,” a Liverpool statement said. “The player will now travel to Merseyside for a medical and to discuss personal terms.”
Liverpool tried to sign Adam in January, offering £6.5 million for the player, although the Tangerines managed to keep hold of their star player despite the club starting to drop towards the lower reaches of the Premier League.
However, the Merseyside club were always in pole position to land Adam in the summer and there will be some fierce competition for places in the first team, with Steven Gerrard and Raul Meireles two other players that will want to be playing on a regular basis.
