This week is a hugely important one for Liverpool Football Club, with Tuesday’s High Court case determining whether New England Sports Ventures can take over at Anfield, or whether George Gillett and Tom Hicks will retain control of power at the Merseyside club.

Chairman Martin Broughton is confident that the £300 million sale of the club will go through and this could represent a change of fortunes for a club that are currently languishing in the lower reaches of the Premier League. Perhaps potential new owner John W Henry will also want a new manager in charge.

After all, Roy Hodgson has made a poor start to his managerial career at Liverpool, despite the obvious problems that the club are experiencing off the field. It appears that the former Fulham manager narrowly pipped Kenny Dalglish to the job during the summer, although the Scot certainly isn’t ruling out a return.

”First of all you need to be asked, second it needs to be suitable if you were asked,” Dalglish told Reuters when asked if he wanted to manage for the first time since 2000.

“Because you don’t say ‘No’, people think you say ‘Yes’ but that is not necessarily true either.

“I wouldn’t say anything other than I am really happy at the moment. There is nothing definitive either way.”
