You might have assumed that Fernando Torres would have a firm idea of how Liverpool would play at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, with the Spaniard having left Anfield just a week ago.

However, it appears that Chelsea were outfoxed by Kenny Dalglish’s decision to employ three centre-halves during the Premier League match, something which effectively nullified Didier Drogba, Nicolas Anelka and Torres.

Liverpool came away with a fantastic 1-0 win and Torres admits that his new team were caught out.

“It was very difficult, Liverpool played a good game, with three at the back. We were not expecting that and maybe they took advantage,” Torres told Chelsea TV, despite Liverpool having lined up in the same formation for their 2-0 win against Stoke at Anfield last Wednesday.

“I think the fair result was the draw, it was unfair to lose that game, but now we are looking forwards to the next game and will keep fighting until the end. There are a lot of points still to play [for].”

Even so, Chelsea’s title hopes are now hanging by a thread and they can be thankful that Manchester United and Arsenal both slipped up on Saturday.
