After 903 minutes of play in a Chelsea shirt, Fernando Torres has finally broken his duck for the west London club, firing home in the 84th minute of the Blues’ 3-0 win over West Ham.
The Spaniard was introduced as a late second-half substitute for Didier Drogba and took just eight minutes to find the net against a team that now sit rock bottom of the Premier League.
Nicolas Anelka was also a substitute and it was the Frenchman that assisted the Torres goal which saw Chelsea double their advantage after Frank Lampard has previously opened the scoring against his former club.
Florent Malouda added some gloss to the scoreline with a long range effort from outside the penalty area and the Hammers are now strong favourites to be relegated.
West Ham will rue the several chances that came their way to level the scoreline, although they are just two points behind 17th placed Blackpool with four games left to play.
As for Chelsea, they are six points behind Manchester United and a trip to Old Trafford could help them close the gap on the Red Devils.
