Chelsea v Liverpool is arguably the most anticipated game of the Premier League season thanks to Fernando Torres making a controversial £50 million transfer on Monday, although the player has claimed it was nothing more than a business decision.

While there will be thousands of Liverpool supporters issuing expletives in the striker’s direction should he take to the pitch on Sunday, Torres states that he never kissed the badge while at the Merseyside club and believes that loyalty to a particular club is a thing of the past.

“I never kissed the Liverpool badge,” he said. “I see some players do that one week after they join a club but the romance in football has gone. It’s different now.

“People come and leave. When you join a club you want to do the best for yourself and for that club. That’s all. Some people like to kiss the badge. I only want to score goals, do my job and achieve all the targets the team has. We share the same targets.”

It is not clear whether Torres will start Sunday’s match, or whether Carlo Ancelotti will stick with the front pairing of Nicolas Anelka and Didier Drogba.
