This is the first meeting between the two teams, with England arriving back at Wembley fresh from a 2-0 win in Wales on Saturday. The comfortable victory keeps them firmly on course for Euro 2012 qualification and Fabio Capello was happy with the 4-3-3 formation which worked to excellent effect at the Millennium Stadium.

It will be interesting to see whether the same tactics are adopted against Ghana, although the personnel will certainly change after the Italian allowed John Terry, Ashley Cole, Frank Lampard, Michael Dawson and Wayne Rooney to return home after Saturday’s match.

It means that some of England’s fringe players will get the chance to impress against the Black Stars and also suggests that Gareth Barry will wear the captain’s armband for the first time, with previous captains all unavailable.

Scott Parker was an impressive performer at the weekend and the West Ham midfielder is keen to now keep his place in the team.

“I got 45 minutes against Denmark, and I thought I did well, and it has gone well personally again against Wales,” Parker told The Mirror.

“I just need to keep the form up and hopefully get a bit more of a chance.

“There is a lot of competition but I do feel I have been in some really good form this season.”

Meanwhile, Ghana arrive at Wembley in great form after beating Congo 3-0 on Sunday, with Prince Tagoe, Dominic Adiyiah, Sulley Muntari among the goals.

“I don’t think any team can afford to take Ghana lightly, when you look at what they have got,” said Steve Bruce, who manages Asamoah Gyan, John Mensah and Sulley Muntari at Sunderland.
