It is almost an insult for a female tennis player to be compared to Russian Barbie doll Anna Kournikova these days, with one or two odd exceptions. The world No.1 title contender Caroline Wozniacki is one of them.

In current times when people associated with tennis speak of Kournikova as the evil spirit which possessed the soul of tennis, Miss Wozniacki expressed her liking and following of former player and model.

Denmark’s Princess of Tennis grew up idealizing Anna Kournikova, dreaming of the day when she would land her own contract. Unlike her idol Kournikova who never won a grand slam, Wozniacki is going strong in US Open for second consecutive season and is required to overcome only two more opponents to score her first Grand Slam.

For one thing she has proved she is not another blond on the circuit to make her fortune off it. It would be foolish to ignore Wozniacki’s beauty when it comes to signing endorsements though, since it goes hand in hand with title wins, a fact proved by Sharapova since revolutionary change in endorsement mechanics.

Arguably a much refined player since her last meeting with Clijsters at US Open last season, Wozniacki is up for a bonus if she conquers the title, thanks to her form in warm-up events. A lesson to all tennis players from this Danish star is that you can earn as much from playing tennis as from off the court activities.
