Charlie Adam on the verge of joining Liverpool FC
While Ian Holloway continues to scrape his heels with regard to the asking price for star midfielder Charlie Adam, it appears that Liverpool are very close to landing the signature of a player who could finally be the replacement for Xabi Alonso.
Adam arrived at Bloomfield Road in the summer of 2009 for £500,000, although it is thought that Blackpool value the player at £8 million, having already turned down a £3 million bid from Aston Villa.
“I completely understand Charlie wanting to go but he completely understands our position too,” Holloway said. “He loves this club and putting in a transfer request doesn’t change that. There’s no chance of him throwing his toys out of the pram and there’s no chance of me leaving him out of the United game. He’d probably kill me if I did that.”
“Charlie is our captain and best player – I have never had anyone as good as him, anywhere – and he has 18 months left on his contract. So if Liverpool want him now, instead of waiting until summer when it would be easier for us, they have to pay a fair price, a price that reflects the loss to us. That’s the way my chairman sees it and if Liverpool don’t do things correctly he will dig his heels in.”
