Carlo Ancelotti claims Chelsea team still playing without confidence

Another game, another poor result for the Blues, although their 1-0 defeat in Marseille will be quickly forgotten considering that Chelsea were already qualified for the Champions League last sixteen as winners of their group.

Nevertheless, Carlo Ancelotti will have been looking for his team to deliver a confident performance ahead of Sunday’s tricky match at White Hart Lane and he instead saw some tentative play as his team strode forward.

Ancelotti told Sky Sports: “Defensively there was tactical discipline and I asked for this from my players. We didn’t have a lot of opportunities to shoot and score, we need to be more clear with the final ball.”

“We have to improve to play against these teams but we have a possibility to do this.

“We lost confidence up front, now we are a bit afraid to play football, we have to keep going, stay compact and prepare well for the next game.”

Chelsea have three difficult matches on the horizon, starting with Tottenham on Sunday and followed by games against Manchester United and Arsenal. It will be interesting to see whether Ancelotti can rally the troops when there seems to be a lack of belief at the moment.
