Burnley v Coventry City latest news

Coventry are in danger of being sucked into a relegation scrap after losing at home to Hull on Saturday and the Sky Blues’ modest squad is starting to struggle under the weight of 46 matches.

Manager Aidy Boothroyd was sacked on Monday morning and the quest now begins to find a replacement, with Dion Dublin and Sam Allardyce among the favourites.

First team coach Steve Harrison takes temporary charge of the side and he could well earn the position permanently by achieving some good results.

Burnley’s 3-0 home defeat against Millwall on Saturday was a setback to their hopes of landing a play-off place this season and almost certainly means that the Clarets won’t finish in the automatic promotion places, despite the teams above them slipping up.

Eddie Howe’s side have an ideal opportunity to bounce back from that loss against the Lions and the young manager is keen to get on the training ground and iron out the mistakes that cost his team dear.

He said: “It was a disappointing performance and we were below-par.

“But credit to Millwall, they defended very well, got bodies behind the ball and made it difficult.

“Their gameplan worked well and we lacked our spark – we gave the ball away too often.

“We conceded the goal in our best spell and it is a real disappointment to concede from a set play. It’s back to the training ground to try and put that right.”
