Blackburn Rovers v West Ham, Saturday 3pm
This wasn’t the most attractive of Premier League fixtures this weekend, although the media will be out in force at Ewood Park hoping to catch a glimpse of the new Blackburn Rovers manager. At the time of writing, it appears that caretaker boss Steve Kean (5/1 Paddy Power) has as good a chance as anyone else of replacing Sam Allardyce, although Martin Jol (13/2 Skybet) remains as a front runner.
Harry Redknapp and Sir Alex Ferguson have both commented on the poor decision to remove Allardyce midway through the season, especially as Rovers occupy a mid-table position in the Premier League after a reasonable start. There will be plenty of people eyeing up the 12/1 (Stan James) about Blackburn getting relegated this term, especially as the new owners could have made a crucial mistake.
West Ham will certainly consider this to be a good time to be playing this fixture, although things have got pretty critical for the Hammers after last weekend’s home defeat against Manchester City. Avram Grant may only have a handful of games to save himself although the visitors can be backed at 7/2 with bet365 to land the spoils in this match, something which would be their first away win in the Premier League this term.
Blackburn are 5/6 chances with Stan James, although Rovers are something of an unknown quantity now that their manager has left. Newcastle demonstrated that there was life after Hughton with a win over Liverpool, although we are not sure how this group of players will react. Mame Biraf Diouf (6/1 Paddy Power) might have done enough to start the match after his goal at the Reebok Stadium last Sunday, while the pace and power of Jason Roberts (13/2 Paddy Power) could make life difficult for West Ham. Carlton Cole is on offer at 8/1 (bet365) to score the first goal of the game.
