Blackburn Rovers appoint Steve Kean as manager for rest of season
While Sam Allardyce ponders what exactly prompted Venky’s to dispose of him as Blackburn manager, the man that he drafted in as first team coach has now been given until the end of the season to make his position a permanent one.
Steve Kean is someone who clearly wants to replace Allardyce on a long-term basis and the club’s relatively new owners have seen something which has prompted them to put their faith in Kean between now and the end of the season.
A club statement read: “Following the departure of Sam Allardyce as football manager of Blackburn Rovers Football Club earlier this month, Steve Kean was appointed as manager. Venky’s London Limited – Blackburn Rovers – has decided to continue with Steve Kean as manager, until the end of the season, June 2011.”
However, the bookmakers have today reported a flood of money on Blackburn to be relegated, especially after last Saturday’s 1-1 draw with bottom club West Ham. Kean will be looking for three points against Stoke City on Boxing Day, although central defender Christopher Samba has already intimated that he wants to leave in January after the departure of Allardyce.
