BDO World Darts Championship betting preview
It’s the start of the New Year and that means that the BDO Championship is just about to get underway at Frimley Green in Surrey.
While several high-profile players such as Raymond van Barneveld, JelleKlaasen, James Wade and Vincent van der Voort have defected to the PDC, this still promises to be a competitive tournament and there are any number of players that can be triumphant.
Martin Adams could be the man to beat, with Wolfie having triumphed last year and he’s 7/2 with Skybet to record a third world title, with his experience sure to come to the fore in some of the longer set matches.
Scott Waites is likely to be a popular bet and Scotty 2 Hotty is a best price 4/1 with Stan James to secure his first world crown, having won the 2010 Grand Slam and becoming the first player from the BDO to do so.
Dave Chisnall(7/1 Skybet) came out of nowhere to reach the 2010 final where he lost to Adams and the Essex arrowsmith is among the favourites on the outright market this time around. Chizzy demonstrated his credentials when beating Simon Whitlock in the 2010 Grand Slam of Darts and should feature at the business end.
Ted Hankey needs no introduction and “The Count” has been a regular fixture in this Championship for the past decade. With victories in 2000 and 2009, the Stoke-on-Trent player is also bidding for a third victory at the Lakeside and he can be backed at tempting odds of 16/1 (Paddy Power).
However, others will think that Tony O’Shea is a much safer bet and Silverback has reached the finals of all four of the BDO’s former Grand Slam of major darts tournaments. He’s also ranked one in the world and the Stockport thrower is 7/1 (Sportingbet) to finally cast off his bridesmaid tag by winning in Frimley Green.
John Boy Walton is another former champion lining up at the Lakeside and the 48-year-old can be backed at a massive 50/1 with Victor Chandler to turn back the years. It was ten years ago when the Yorkshireman landed the spoils and he’s certainly got the potential to go a long way in this tournament.
Daryl Fitton is renowned for coming on to One Step Beyond by Madness and the bookies can’t decide whether the Dazzler has much of a chance in the World Championship this year. The 48-year-old has reached the semi-finals in 2005 and 2009, with Skybet going as big as 25/1 that the Stockport player lands his first world title.
