Once again, we were treated to an entertaining north London derby, although Arsenal’s inability to hold on to a two-goal lead at White Hart Lane means that they are now very unlikely to overhaul Manchester United at the top of the Premier League.
In fact, the Gunners’ 3-3 draw with Spurs has seen Chelsea leapfrog them in the Premier League table, something that will not sit well with Arsene Wenger. His team were in cruise control against their arch-rivals but poor defending cost them dear once again.
Theo Walcott was lively throughout the contest and the England winger gave the visitors an early lead, only for Rafael van der Vaart to restore parity, although a rampant Arsenal were proving too much for their opponents in the early stages.
Samir Nasri put the Gunners back into the lead and Robin van Persie doubled the visitors’ advantage, although Tottenham were handed a lifeline when Tom Huddlestone’s goal before half-time reduced the arrears.
Rafael van der Vaart completed the comeback for Tottenham, who sit just two points behind Manchester City with six games remaining.
Arsenal are certain of Champions League football next season, although that will be little consolation to a team who were looking at the quadruple a few weeks ago.
