Andrew Strauss confident of England Ashes win after 2nd Test victory

England were head and shoulders above Australia in Adelaide, winning the Second Test by an innings and 71 runs. The tourists dominated the match from the moment that Jonathan Trott ran out Simon Katich in the opening exchanges and captain Andrew Strauss is now feeling confident that his side can retain the miniature urn in style.

“We’re very pleased with what we’ve done in this Test match,” he said.

“There are three matches to go and we can’t get too far ahead of ourselves. If we keep these standards up we have a good chance of winning.”

There were so many positives to take from this Second Test performance as England excelled with both bat and ball. James Anderson and Graeme Swann did the damage on the final day, although Kevin Pietersen and Alastair Cook has previously amassed huge totals.

“Our batters are getting big scores which is crucial and that’s putting pressure on the opposition,” Strauss said.

“Bowling them out for 245 on a flat wicket was an outstanding effort from Jimmy Anderson [who took 4-51] and the rest of the lads and then we really made hay with the bat.

“We didn’t let them back into the game and it was a pretty comprehensive victory.”
